Significant scientific progress: Combining our ALMIS hip arthroplasty technique with the latest (Miniaturized) NAVI SWISS rapid interoperative Navigation System in Iatriko Psychikou / Athens Medical Group.
Implantation of a new acetabular component of immediate strong retention and of osseointegration possibility reinforced with peripheral special blades, without use of screws, and implantation of a short antirotation femoral stem with minimal bone loss.
The desired programmed position of the acetabular component and the correct position of the short femoral stem, the precise desired length, necessary for pre-existing bone damage to the femoral head, as well as the offset, were given quickly using this new NAVI SWISS system without the delay of other complex old navigation or old “robotic” hip systems.
Everything was done with the patient listening to music and anesthesia only at the lower extremities (not an epidural one) in less than an hour.
The patient walked with weight bearing immediately after surgery and no blood transfusions were needed.
Due in large part to the prolongation of the duration of the surgery we have previously voiced our objections to the use of time-consuming, costly and complex “robotic” or other “navigation” systems for hip arthroplasty, but this new technological development seems to have a bright future especially in patients in which is necessary to have a quick and precise intraoperative control of implants placement!
